We are all living a very volatile environment. This puts pressure on us, because it is not easy to deal with perpetual change. This effect can cause us to retrench, or into survival mode, similar to the base of the Maslow Pyramid. This could be the time when we are the most vulnerable, and need coaching the most. However, when we are in this mode, we are probably less aware, and least likely to ask for help. However coaching is about the client’s agenda, they have to have a desire to be coached. As coaches we must not “push” our services, but wait to be asked and let the client “pull” on us, and our expertise. However we can create an environment for clients to do this, by being open, caring, trusted and authentic. This will raise the client’s self-awareness and the likelihood to ask for help where appropriate.
